Well… The past two weeks have been a bit of a whirlwind to say the least; Still adjusting to uni life and getting used to the most complicated timetable in the history of timetables we was given a task! Our task was in two weeks to create a short film based on a brief that was given – two locations showcasing a journey – seemed like an interesting task and it certainly was to say the least!
In a group of four each with individual roles – Director; Producer; Editor (Myself) and Cinematographer – however in this first task of the year we decided as well as our own roles we would each work on each role getting a taste of what each role was like. We quickly decided on a story and got away with our pre-production. Our story was to show a female in social awkward and embarrassing situations that would make the audience think she was bumbling and clumsy yet in the end should would turn out to be elegant.
Pre-production consisted of storyboarding; Location recces; Script and story treatment writing and finding ourselves an actress! When the producer finds ourselves an actress very quickly we was all able to team together and get everything from pre-production to filming done! Whilst no production comes without a hitch just like ours we overcame it and got it done.
Then came the longest part… The editing.
As the editor of the group i should say i was over the moon that i had 4 days worth of editing to do yet i knew it was going to be a hell of a task, Me along with the whole group decided to work together and edit. The editing process was good yet long and came with its problems such as colour correction and audio but after days of working from 11am to 8pm the film was finished.
We screened the film yesterday and got good reviews, not our best work but looking back were still proud and happy with the overall outcome! It is a film we are proud off and now get prepared for our bigger task due in december, buts thats going to be another story for another blog i think.
Well this post was very long but hopefully interesting, I just thought i would show you into the life of a film student, filled with laughter; tears; filmmaking and overall the feeling of pride in our film.
Very long story short; University is flipping awesome.
